Team players wanted!
In July, Daimler Buses invited 56 new partners from Poland, Czech Republic, Hungary, Slovenia, and Romania to the first Daimler Buses Potential Supplier Day in Neu-Ulm, Germany.
With its three brands Mercedes-Benz, Setra, and BharatBenz, Daimler Buses offers its customers around the world a comprehensive product portfolio. The largest of the total of 14 production sites are in Germany, Turkey, Brazil, Mexico, and, since 2015, also in India. To be able to offer innovation and quality at the best price, it is important for Daimler Buses to work together with innovative and competitive partners.
Chance to convince at an individual interview
At individual interviews, the potential suppliers took their opportunity to introduce themselves and their company to the cross-functional Daimler teams. Representatives from Procurement, Engineering, and Supplier Management were able to form an impression of whether each supplier is a suitable partner for Daimler Buses. Alongside presentations, many of the suppliers had brought exhibits from their own production, which they brought out during the interviews.
Meanwhile, at six market stands with selected sample parts, all those without an individual interview were able to compare their own production possibilities against the technical requirements of Daimler Buses and hold discussions with experts from Daimler.
On a bustour, all the potential new suppliers were able to take a look at the production of Setra touring coaches. And the product experience went further: On a ride in the Setra S 516 HDH, there was precise control and sharp braking. With “Adaptive Cruise Control” and „Active Brake Assist“ the flagship of the current Setra collection demonstrated its technical potential on the plant’s own test circuit.
Taking the first step
Following a successful interview, 53 suppliers received one or more RfQ packages, theirrequests for quotation, already at the Supplier Day. Thus they took their first step toward future collaboration. These suppliers must now prove that they can produce the requested parts on attractive and competitive terms before they take their next steps – and become a new Daimler Buses supplier.
