Khop Kuhn Krap

In Thai, Khop Kuhn Krap means 'thank you' - and the Thonburi Automotive Assembly Plant (TAAP) received a thank you for over 50 years the partner has been assembling Mercedes-Benz passenger cars for Thailand and Southeast Asia. A success story for which TAAP received the Daimler Supplier Award.

Mercedes-Benz has a long history in Thailand: The first car with a star was delivered to the King of Siam as early as 1904. In 2017, Mercedes-Benz achieved with more than 14,000 passenger cars sold the highest sales of all time in Thailand and was market leader in the luxury car segment – consecutively for 17 years now. The best-selling models were the C- and E-Class sedans and the CLA Coupé. Also our Plug-in-Hybrid-models are very popular in Thailand. A broad portfolio of locally produced vehicles will continue the success story of Mercedes-Benz in Thailand in the future. Currently the brand with the three-pointed star offers ten locally produced models including the brand new CLS.

Team work

An important part of this success story is the close cooperation of Mercedes-Benz Manufacturing Thailand with Thonburi Automotive Assembly Plant (TAAP), the local partner which operates the Mercedes-Benz plant in Thailand. The plant is located in the Bangkok region, where local production of the W123 model – the famous E-Class predecessor – began over 40 years ago. The site is part of the worldwide production network of Mercedes-Benz Cars and TAAP currently operates the plant with assembly, body shop and paint shop. The production portfolio includes ten models: CLA Coupé, GLA, C-Class sedan, C-Class Coupé, E-Class sedan, S-Class sedan, GLC, GLC Coupé, GLE as well as the new CLS. In 2017 alone, TAAP produced over 12,000 cars for Mercedes-Benz while employing over 1,000 people.

An excellent partnership

TAAP is a convincing and outstanding production partner in a market of high significance and is unique for Daimler due to its great flexibility, transparency and passion. With more than 50 years of experience, TAAP implements very high product standards in Thailand. This is demonstrated by our great commitment in the partnership category. Half a century ago, Daimler entered the Thai market alongside TAAP as general agent. With the increasing market success, the contractual relationships also grew – and TAAP increased its capacities. Today, TAAP manufactures all Mercedes-Benz models for Thailand and is a very important local partner for Daimler in order to secure its sustainably profitable business. For this reason, the company has received the Daimler Supplier Award in the ‘Partnership’ category.

Once a year, Daimler AG presents the Daimler Supplier Award to honor above-average performance and partnership with suppliers – this year for the tenth time. Daimler is developing new cooperation models to meet the dynamic requirements of the digital world. The anniversary event of the Daimler Supplier Award in the Mercedes-Benz Customer Center Sindelfingen was accordingly held under the motto ‘Enter the next chapter’. Ten lucky winners took part in the glamorous event. The company received a newly designed trophy, which underlines the importance of the trusting cooperation between Daimler and its suppliers. On course for the future – with E-Mobility

The successfully established partnership will continue to provide a solid basis in the future, as Mercedes-Benz Cars continues to drive the electric offensive in Southeast Asia with a local battery production in Thailand. Mercedes-Benz Cars and TAAP will intensify their cooperation once again and jointly invest more than 100 million euros in the Bangkok production site. This is intended to meet the growing demand for electro mobility in the region. The investment will flow into the expansion of the plant and a new battery production facility, creating a total of more than 300 additional jobs at the site.
