Hoşgeldiniz – New Daimler Trucks Powertrain Suppliers
Procurement Commercial Vehicles and Platform Management at Daimler are taking an unusual route in the search for new Daimler Trucks Powertrain suppliers. This time in a country spanning two continents: Turkey.
At the end of May, Daimler Trucks repeated in Istanbul what it had done in November in Stuttgart: Meeting with known and also unknown suppliers and planning the first steps for a collaboration with them directly there and then. Around 50 suppliers were invited to the sports center of the Mercedes-Benz plant in Istanbul for the Daimler Trucks Powertrain Potential Supplier Day. Suppliers in Turkey offer two advantages: They have experience in working with major automotive manufacturers, and their geographical location means they are predestined to support Daimler’s platform activities.
In individual conversations, the guests presented their companies and answered the questions of a Daimler team from Procurement, Platform Management, Supplier Management, Cost Planning and Development.
Quality you can touch!
Things got specific between basketball hoops and spectator stands: Participants chatted about the details of the particular material group at the “Technology Stands”. Touching encouraged. Ultimately, quality is something you can not only see, but also feel.
The product experience is mandatory for Daimler, particularly at first meetings such as this event: That is why all guests were invited to a two-hour guided tour of the plant. The plant in Istanbul’s Hoşdere district covers the entire bus production process – in top quality: From the welding robots in body shell construction to the detailed checks and extensive tests after the finish.
This Supplier Day offers potential suppliers the opportunity to join the world of Daimler Trucks Powertrain.
„Bize Bugün Gücünüzü Gösterin! – Show Us Your Power Today!”
“If you meet such criteria as technology, on-time delivery, costs and quality, you can become a long-term partner of Daimler. And anyone who works with us can become a Key Supplier or Strategic Partner,” as Sinan Aksel explains the Daimler purchasing strategy “Daimler Supplier Network“. The classification involves a close examination of the criteria innovation, performance and purchasing volume. The goal of all of Daimler’s partners should always be to make the jump to the top of the pyramid: from supplier to key supplier and ultimately to strategic partner.
Daimler wants to help Turkish suppliers to gain a foothold, including outside of Turkey. “The right partners are in Turkey too,” says Aksel. This is confirmed by the Daimler Sourcing Index, which ranks the country between Orient and Occident among the top five.
