Gala Event and Award Winners at Top Speed
On February 25, ten suppliers received the 2015 Daimler Supplier Award at the Mercedes-Benz Branch in Stuttgart. Our motto: "Setting the pace. In the fast lane." On this evening it was all about setting the pace in the industry. Because those who already think about tomorrow today will be ahead of the game tomorrow. High speed was one of the main themes of the evening.
Daimler sets the pace in the industry in tandem with its suppliers. Together they are in the fast lane. The clear message of the evening was that this applies primarily to the important areas of connectivity, efficiency and safety. Ten suppliers who significantly contributed to this in 2015 received the coveted award.
Outstanding performance in the categories of quality, partnership, and innovation were decisive. In keeping with last year’s practice, the procurement units nominated three potential winners or nominees in each category. There was also a Special Award.
An evening “in the fast lane”
Judith Rakers, a popular “Tagesschau” newscaster (German news program), guided the 650 guests through the evening. The 450 high-ranking representatives of Key Suppliers and Strategic Partners experienced an innovative stage event together with the members of the Board of Management and 200 Daimler managers. Violinist Anna Phoebe provided an impressive opening performance. Phoebe has already performed with musicians like George Michael, Jethro Tull and Roxy Music. On this evening, she began with “Viva la vida,” a piece by the British band Coldplay. The atmosphere in the Stuttgart Mercedes-Benz Branch was captivating from the start, facilitated by special lighting effects: the movements of the violin bow in multicolored waves on a 14-meter wide screen. Over the spectators’ heads, a tunnel of LED lights illuminated rhythmically.
The video trailers introducing the award categories of the three procurement units also conveyed a fast-paced mood. Shots of the products were interspersed with scenes from motor sport. From the start – via the pit stops – to the finish line. The film music was accordingly lively and fast-paced. It was composed especially for the evening and played live by the Daimler Symphony Orchestra. All of the members of the lay-orchestra are Daimler employees who play music in their free time.
In keeping with the official program theme, it was all about speed in the dialog zones as well – meeting points that invited Board members, procurement managers and other Daimler managers to network. Brief and to the point, like speed dating, the suppliers quickly picked up the conversation. There was enough time for more extensive discussions afterwards in a comfortable lounge atmosphere.
Extraordinary performance pays off
Each year, the company recognizes outstanding performance by its suppliers with the Daimler Supplier Award. This was the eighth time this award has been bestowed. Even an invitation is an honor – guests include only Strategic Partners and Key Suppliers.
The Daimler Supplier Award once again shows: Extraordinary supplier performance pays off. Because these are the companies setting the pace in the industry. And because they are rewarded with an invitation to an unparalleled gala event.
