At the IAA Supplier Dialogue, Daimler Trucks and Buses invites its most important suppliers to an exchange. High-profile guests from around the world met in Hanover at the converted Daimler exhibition space. A way to share the end of the trade fair's first week – and keep an eye on the future.

Plenty of impressions, intense exchange, and a lack of sleep. Trade fair weeks at the international automotive exhibition (IAA) Commercial Vehicles are often very stressful for those involved. However, 300 guests at the Supplier Dialogue did not want to miss out on spending the Friday night at the Daimler trade fair booth. Guests included 230 top managers representing Daimler Trucks and Buses’ most important suppliers, Strategic Partners, and Key Suppliers. They were welcomed together with roughly 80 attending Daimler managers by hosts Marcus Schoenenberg, Head of Global Procurement Trucks and Buses, and Sven Ennerst, Head of Truck Product Engineering and Global Procurement.

Technology leaders first

“Technology leaders. Connected.” The evening’s motto was inspired by the trucks, buses, and coaches at the Daimler trade fair booth. Anyone looking around on their way to the main stage immediately saw that digitalization and electrification represent pivotal mega trends within the industry. Proof was directly in front of the stage: the eActros. “Who would have thought this would be possible five years ago?”, Marcus Schoenenberg asked at the beginning of his speech, reiterating that “it’s not about the question, whether or not changes are taking place. The question is when?” This is one of the toughest challenges the industry faces. For this reason, he went on to add that all of us must produce results to develop a transition. He also pointed out Daimler’s and its suppliers’ particular strengths in terms of these mega trends. “Connectivity and electrification are technology-driven trends. We are technology companies. Our shared expertise, innovative force, and customer understanding are at the top of the industry. For this reason, it is down to us to develop the future with appealing products and services.” Sven Ennerst also stressed his target of more growth and innovations together with suppliers, adding:

We want to be the pioneers of electromobility and connectivity. Just like we are leaders in safety and efficiency. For this reason, we need partners who are also pioneers.

Daimler Trucks is once again underlining its technological leadership at the IAA thanks to numerous innovations in terms of efficiency, safety, and connectivity. “So, if you have ideas and you want to implement them as soon as possible, speak to us first!”, he appealed to suppliers. He also thanked guests for what has already been achieved: “The most important message is thank you for your commitments and for everything you have contributed over the past years. We would not have been able to do it without you.”

An evening of dialog

The Supplier Dialogue was the ideal opportunity to discuss future projects with high-profile guests. They exchanged impressions from the trade fair and celebrated product highlights they had jointly developed. Guests also took advantage of the event and discussed details directly at the vehicles or engine exhibits. Consequently, some did not leave until after midnight.
