The Supplier’s DIY!
The team members responsible for rebuilding the supplier database made sure that it would be as easy to use as possible. As of this month, suppliers are able to use the database, which is the result of a joint project involving Procurement, IT and other Daimler units.
The new Supplier Database 3.0 is Daimler’s central master data system for information of suppliers. It provides data to all relevant purchasing systems. Accordingly, it is important that the data is always up to date and accurate. Effective immediately, the suppliers will assume that task and thus ensure the high quality of their company’s data. In the Daimler Supplier Portal under “My applications,” suppliers can call up the supplier database at any time and manage their data – from the company name and the correct address, to bank details and the contact persons for Daimler. The areas Procurement, IT and Accounting as well as Transport Logistics and Development worked together to design the new system. Proway GmbH, a German IT service provider, supported them in the project.
Easy to understand and use
The project members deliberately kept the user interface of the Supplier Database very simple. This, along with the fact that the system is accessible in different languages, helps to ensure ease of use for the global suppliers. And not least, there is an interactive help feature only two clicks away to provide users with immediate help if needed.
Quick access to the new tool
Suppliers can reach the new Supplier Database 3.0 through the Daimler Supplier Portal. Temporary access can be set up for all those who are not registered there. Beginning in 2017, all active suppliers will be reminded once a year to update their data. This will also ensure that Daimler employees call and email the right contact person of the supplier. As a result, fewer requests will ‘fizzle out.’ And ultimately, this will improve communication between the partners.
