Startup Spirit with STARTUP AUTOBAHN

The idea behind STARTUP AUTOBAHN: The energy of Silicon Valley combined with German engineering expertise in the region of Stuttgart.

STARTUP AUTOBAHN is the new Startup Ecosystem in Stuttgart. A joint initiative of Daimler AG, the University of Stuttgart, ARENA2036 e.V., and Plug & Play Tech Center.
The development of startups is strongly accelerated in so-called accelerator programs. STARTUP AUTOBAHN accepts applications from hardware and software startups from all over the world. Following a screening process, in July 2016 the first ten startups will have the opportunity to develop prototypes and acquire new customers in a three-month program of intensive monitoring, coaching, and pilot projects with partner companies. At the end of the program the startups will present themselves at the so-called Expo Day Venture Capitalists and industrial companies from all over the world.

Innovations for the future of mobility

The thematic focus is on the “Future of Mobility.” The main emphasis is on hardware-oriented projects, because the industrial region of Baden-Württemberg continues to be a center of innovations and inventors’ ingenuity. To this end, other local companies and medium-sized companies will also be able to join Project STARTUP AUTOBAHN in the future.

Experienced partners for STARTUP AUTOBAHN

ARENA2036 e.V. offers startups not only co-working space but also access to the most advanced manufacturing technologies in its hardware laboratory. This includes tools, machines, 3D printers, and software for prototype construction. Accelerator Operator Plug & Play Tech Center is bringing in its expertise for the networking and promotion of startups.

Contract awards at high speed

Procurement Marketing started the tender for the suitable Accelerator operator in a small project team last year – together with the units Research & Development and Business Innovation (BI), for which Procurement Marketing is the central contact. Networking in the worldwide startup scene and a technology focus were just as important as the Silicon Valley Footprint. After on-site presentations by various potential partners in Stuttgart and by Skype, the concept of Plug & Play was chosen as the most convincing concept with respect to content and commercial viability. With this, the appropriate partner was found and commissioned within a few weeks. Procurement could then also order and source the pitch for the advertising agency within a record-short time. STARTUP AUTOBAHN was presented to the public in May. The first startups will be going to the starting line at STARTUP AUTOBAHN from July to September.
