It is all about people
With the motto "experience the future", the International Motor Show (IAA) took a look at the continued evolution of the automotive industry this year. The "me Convention" curated by Mercedes-Benz and South by Southwest was also about inspiration for the future – one that extends far beyond technology and digitization.
On top of that, there were of course cars to play with: At the Frankfurt fair, Daimler presented itself on three floors with many Mercedes-Benz and smart vehicles. Assembly units gleamed, cars were tended to a bright luster every minute. Only the first floor appeared more like a large lounge area at first glance.
However only registered guests had access to the dialog and interaction area of the “me Convention”: Mercedes-Benz and South by Southwest (SXSW) had, for the first time, extended an invite to a conference where dialog and networking were the main focus. The participants were invited to actively participate and to take a holistic look at the future.
More than 2,700 participants from over 35 countries attended the “me Convention” with the motto #createthenew. Their thematic areas: New Creation, New Leadership, New Realities, New Urbanism, and New Velocity – derived from the Daimler future strategy CASE: Connectivity, Autonomous driving, Sharing, and Electric drive systems.
Inspiration came at its finest: with 150 international figures from the technology, design, and creative industries. In talks, interviews, panels and workshops. On four stages and in three workshops, in the lab and on installations.
24 international start-up cities presented themselves, and there were shout outs to competitions such as the “Smart Urban Pioneers” and a hackathon on “Artificial Intelligence” and “Car-2-X Technology”. Yoga sessions and meditation in the afternoon were followed by music, art, and culture in the evening.
